An ivory clad pagoda form home shrine to the bodhisattva Kannon (known in China as Guanyin). The roof panels are carved with a dragon amongst stylized clouds and lotus leaves. The 'body' of the building housing the miniature Kannon is decorated with phoenix and bands of flowers and lotus petals. This item was probably made in Japan duringthe Meiji period (1868-1911)

Condition: there are two roof panels missing (one from the top and one from the back); a small door handle is missing and the roof edge and two of the corners of the pagoda base are chipped.

20cm (8 inches) high; 10cm (4 inches) wide at the base.
