#1764 Important Documentary Dutch P.O.W. Painted Bamboo Pot, dated July 1943
Only 1 left in stockA very rare historically important documentary bamboo brush or pen pot drawn in ink signed 'Juli (July in Dutch) 1943' in the Tjihapit Internment Camp for Dutch Women and Children in the Japanese Occupied Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia).
The "cartoon" style drawings are curiously romanticised - I speculate, either to escape from the well documented brutal reality of camp conditions or it may have been produced, for propaganda purposes, under pressure from their concentration camp commanders, to present a deceptively glamorous image to the outside world.
Condition - very good.
12.8cm (5 inches) high. .
