#0386 Rare Chinese Fencai Peony Vase Hall for the Cultivation of Virtue, Republic Period (1912-1949) **Sold** April 2021
Only 1 left in stockA rare and very finely decorated Chinese porcelain vase depicting a flowering peony shrub painted with fencai/famille rose enamels. On the base is the iron red four character mark "Shen de tang zhi" -the "Hall for the Cultivation of Virtue" which was located in the Old Summer Palace, the Yuanmingyuan, which was destroyed by European troops in 1860. The mark was used during the Kangxi and Daoguang reigns and also during the Republic period (1912-1948) when we believe this vase was made.
Condition - there is a faint star crack (please view the last two enlargements) - no further damages and no restoration
18cm (7 inches) high; 9.5cm (3.75 inches) diameter.
民国 稀有精美的粉彩牡丹花卉灯笼樽 “慎德堂制”款
一件精美稀有的粉彩牡丹花卉灯笼樽。底有红色“慎德堂制”四字款。慎德堂,位于圆明园,1860年毁于八国联军之手。慎德堂的款识用于康熙和道光年间,但也用于民国时期。我们认为这件为民国时期作品。
品相:瓶身有一处几不可见的分叉裂痕(见图十一和图十二),无其他损伤,无修复。高18厘米,直径9.5厘米。

Only 1 left in stockAn early 20th century souvenir photo album entitled "The Ceremonies of a Japanese Marriage". with green woven silk boards and nineteen hand coloured photographs with explanatory text.
On the final page "Published by Tamamura, Photographer, Kobe, Japan" and in Japanese,"published in the 38th year of Meiji (1905). . . written by Teijiro Takagi"
Condition: very good - there is substantial wear to the silk covered boards which have a split along the join at the back (please view enlargements) ; internally excellent with no damages or losses; no foxing, staining or aging and the tissue guards are all present.

第一版,线装,绿色丝绸封面,里面的照片经过手工上色并配有解释说明。最后一页上面印有“日本神户玉村写真馆出版”“著作兼发行者 高木庭次郎”,印刷发行年份为明治三十八年(约1905年),应为高木庭次郎所作。
品相:很好,封皮有许多磨损,背面封皮有裂。但是内部完好(无损伤,无缺失),无折页,无污渍或老化,所有照片护纸也都完好。

Only 1 left in stockA rare Mahogany table with deeply carved traditional West African style geometric decoration and with elegant stylized antelope form legs.
The European shape and African decoration suggests that this item was made for European clients during the Colonial period, is probably Igbo from eastern Nigeria, and was possibly exported to the UK in the 1950s or 1960s during the period of transition to Independence.
Condition: very good - no damages or repairs. Top 74cm (29.1 inches) x 58.5cm ( 23 inches). 67 cm ( 26.3 inches) high

A small porcelain pot, with cover (possibly for cosmetics) painted with 'famille rose' enamels depicting a lady and two boys in a garden setting. The cover is decorated with a bat / boy zoomorphic figure. This item was made in China for export in the second half of the 19th Century during either the Tongzhi or the Guangxu reigns.
Condition: very good - no damages and no repairs.

Only 1 left in stockA silvered metal plaque, possibly antimony, on a base metal (lead / tin) alloy with finely cast dragons encircling a mythical scene. This item was probably made in Japan circa 1890-1920 during the Meiji or Taisho periods.
Condition: there are many casting imperfections to the surface, particularly in the bottom right area: no losses or damages.

Condition - very good - there is considerable wear to the gilding but absolutely no damages and no restoration.

#0023 19th or early 20th Century Malaysian or Indonesian Keris **Sold** to Italy February 2009
Only 1 left in stockAn old, probably Malaysian, keris/kris with wavy iron blade. The hilt is of typical styalised Garuda head form and has a paktong metal collar. The varnished wood scabbard is decorated with repouse engraved white metal(probably silver) mounts.
Condition - good. There is a drill hole (for hanging) to the top of the scabbard and sections have been cut out of the metal mounts on the reverse side.
Total length 19 inches (48 cm), blade - 15 inches (38 cm). -
#1145 Extremely Fine Chinese Eggshell Porcelain Bowl by Wang Yijun (1904-1989) **Price on Request 售价待询 **
Only 1 left in stockn extremely finely and delicately painted eggshell porcelain bowl by Wang Yijun. The poem on the reverse side reads "Wen ji qi wu xiang feng nian, fu gui rong hua ren ping an. Wang Yijun zuo" which can translate as "Practice the sword while hearing roosters (meaning work hard) and enjoy the affluence of the year; wish people wealth, prosperity and safety. Made by Wang Yijun"The seal mark to the base reads "Jingdezhen Zuo" - Made in Jingdezhen. Wang Yijun (1904 - 1989)was born in Anhui, China. A student of Wu Ai in his early years, he specialised in “flowers and birds” painting. He adapted Lang Shining’s style, with a touch of traditional famille rose technique. His works are usually delicate and vivid, with the elegance of the court school. In 1959 Wang Yijun was conferred the title “Ceramic Artist” by the Jingdezhen Municipal Government. In 2011, the late artist was given the Official award of “China’s Master of Ceramic Art”.
Condition - excellent -no damages or repairs and with fitted box.

极为精美的粉彩蛋壳瓷碗 汪以俊作 一件薄胎蛋壳瓷碗,为汪以俊的精品之作。一面画有雄鸡牡丹图,另一面有诗文:“闻鸡起舞享丰年,富贵荣华人平安——汪以俊作“。碗底有矾红篆书款“景德镇制”。汪以俊(1904-1989),安徽人。早年师从吴霭生学艺,专攻粉彩花鸟。其吸收宫庭画师郎世宁的表现手法,并结合传统粉彩工艺,所作画风细腻,神韵生动,甚有宫廷画派精丽脱俗之气息。1959年被景德镇市政府授予“陶瓷美术家”称号。2011年被追认为”中国陶瓷艺术大师“。 品相:完好,无损伤,无修补。碗的直径20.8厘米。

#1801 12th - 14th Century Chinese Bronze Double Gourd Flower Vase **Sold** to Taiwan September 2022
Only 1 left in stockA rare gourd shaped bronze (copper tin alloy) vase decorated in archaic style with leiwen (thunder) pattern motifs and a band of stylized waves.
This item was made in China in the 12th to 14th Century during the late Song or Yuan dynasties when ancient Shang and Zhou bronzes were unearthed and collected. This was a time when large numbers of antique inspired bronze vessels were produced. Huge quantities were subsequently exported to japan where many were used domestically as flower containers.
Condition: there are bumps and dents to the lower wave decorated zone.

瓶身上有雷纹,下有水波纹。做于宋晚期或元代,约12至14世纪间。在此期间,商周时代的青铜器被挖掘和收藏,当时制造了许多受古董风格影响的仿古铜器。许多出口至日本,其中许多被用来做花瓶。
品相:瓶腹下部(水波纹处)有部分磕碰造成的凹陷。高16厘米。
