Only 1 left in stockA large, and heavy, Stick Stand, ( for holding walking sticks and umbrellas), profusely decorated, in Satsuma style, with a panapoly of historical scenes enclosed within elaborately enamelled textile (?) patterns and surmounted by a large coiled dragon amongst stylized clouds. This item was made in Japan for export to Europe or America during the late 19th or early 20th Century.
Condition: there are chips to the rim, some cracks around the base and losses to the head and claws of the dragon.

Only 1 left in stockAn unusual, attractively painted, Kutani porcelain tripod vase complete with it's original cover surmounted with an iron red Shishi. This item was made in Japan, for export, during the meiji period (1868-1911).
There is a procuction firing crack to base and there are two hairlines visible inside the cover: the tip of the tail on Shishi finialhas been reglued

#1498 Rare Pair of Hirado Porcelain Shishi / Lions from Japan, Edo Period circa 1820-1850 **Sold** to USA, January 2021
Only 2 left in stockA rare pair of heavy (solid) under glaze cobalt blue decorated porcelain Shishi Lions (koma inu 狛犬)made in the Hirado kilns, Mikawachi, Japan during the later years of the Edo period. Although previously thought to have been made late in the Meiji period (1868-1911) recent scholarship, by (among others) the late David Hyatt-King, is now indicating that these koma inu were made much earlier, circa 1820-1850.
Condition: there is an old lead strap work repair to the openwork brocade ball under the paws of the female (closed mouth) and both lions have firing cracks to the base. No additional 'damages' and no restoration.

Only 1 left in stockA rare, attractively enamelled, figure of the Bodhisattva and Japanese "Goddess of Mercy", Kannon.. Unusually, she is seated on a large boulder inhabited by a writhing white glazed dragon.
This item was made in Japan in the Meiji period, during the 19th or early 20th Century
Condition: two very minor losses - a chip to one of the dragon's horns and a small chip to the bottom of the dragon's tail.
