A rare dated mid Ming dynasty bronze archaic style tripod altar vessel - Jue. The Jue originated during the Shang dynasty (about 1700 to 1027 BC) in the Chinese bronze age and was used, probably in ritual, for heating alcohol over fire. This item was commissioned as a Confucian temple dedication and bears the inscription - "Shun De County (Guangdong), Xue Wen Temple Altar Vessel, Hongzhi (1488-1505) 1492, County Magistrate Wu *** Ju ask workman to cast".

Condition - very good - no repairs or restoration.

明弘治 罕有的15世纪青铜爵 1492年
一件罕有的明代中期高古风格的三足青铜供器——爵杯。爵杯始于中国青铜器时期的商代,可能用于祭祀时在火上温酒。上有文字:顺德县学文庙祭器弘治壬子知县吴 ▉举命工铸。英国维多利亚与阿伯特博物馆有类似藏品,参见Rose Kerr所著《后期中国青铜器》一书(Later Chinese Bronzes,英文,ISBN 1-870076-11-7)。
品相:很好。无修复。高16.5厘米,长16.5厘米。
