A beautifully decorated late 17th Century jar delicately painted in shades of underglaze blue. On one side is an image from the second chapter of the Yuan dynasty play the Xi Xiang Ji('The Romance of the Western Chamber') written by Wang Shifu - depicting Cui Yingying and her maid Hong Niang together with the scholar Zhang Sheng and a monk. On the other panel is painted a scene from the legend of the warrior heroine Hua Mu Lan who fought in many campaigns for the emperor's troops disguised as a man. This item was made during the reign of the Kangxi Emperor (1662-1722).

Condition - excellent. No chips, cracks or restoration.
